Death of Gurdjieff
THE DEATH OF GURDJIEFF IN THE FOOTHILLS OF GEORGIA This companion piece to the Dialogues offers an unprecedented inside view of a living American Work Group. It features the allegorical figure of “G.” raging through post-war Paris, and latter day scenes with “J.” trampling about the mountains of north Georgia and the psyche of contemporary man. This is the first American book to faithfully arise from Real Work, true to its time and place. It is not a rehashing of “ancient truths,” but a modern objective adventure into man’s childish illusions of himself, and his total misunderstanding of what is possible for the very, very few. An overwhelming tour de force dealing with the kinds of things you wouldn’t, couldn’t and shouldn’t believe—even if they are true.
Back cover:
“It is unenlightening to conceive of the mind as the enemy; after all, what actual adversary would furnish you with an endless supply of fresh ammunition.” Jan Cox
Jan M. Cox—writer, philosopher, piano bluesman, law school dean, and intellectual provocateur— lived and worked in “the foothills” of Stone Mountain, Georgia, until his death in 2005. His philosophical teachings, exploring—and exploding—the arcane nature of consciousness, thought, and so-called individuality, have been studied all over the world. Jan’s efforts are continued by members of his original group. For video and audio links to Jan’s private meetings, and a daily posting of his previously unpublished papers, visit www.jancox.com.
