Dialogues of Gurdjieff
THE DIALOGUES OF GURDJIEFF This is the revised and enlarged edition of that contemporary masterpiece of objective fiction, which has become the vade mecum of the few—those not yet totally addicted to routine suffering, anger, imagination and other traditional manifestations of the popular human condition. It is an astounding romp with the figure of “G.” in post-war Paris, as he leads a young American on extraordinary adventures which redefine the ordinary concepts of reality, consciousness and human knowledge—adventures which shed a new, and at times disquieting, light on Sufism, Zen, Yoga, The Fourth Way, and ultimately, on The Work itself. This new edition presents an unequaled, tantalizing glimpse into the everyday activities of the Work group Jan directed for thirty-five years, and includes numerous examples of his earliest private papers.
Back cover: “What is new intelligence? In part, it’s an awareness of the lag between what you say and what you do. Within that lag exists all regret, indecision and confusion—all the general irritation of being human.” Jan Cox
Jan M. Cox—writer, philosopher, piano bluesman, law school dean, and intellectual provocateur— lived and worked in “the foothills” of Stone Mountain, Georgia, until his death in 2005. His philosophical teachings, exploring—and exploding—the arcane nature of consciousness, thought, and so-called individuality, have been studied all over the world. Jan’s efforts are continued by members of his original group. For video and audio links to Jan’s private meetings, and a daily posting of his previously unpublished papers, visit www.jancox.com.
